The time has finally come—after over 9 years of trouble-free ownership—to part with Mrs. RPM’s much-loved Rav4, AWD with the Limited V6. We’ll both be sorry to see it go. But if you’ve ever wanted to own a reliable mom-mobile crossover that’s quicker than it has any business being...well, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Update: sold to the first person who checked it out in person. The end of a really reliable era.

I’m thinking about selling mine while it’s still rock solid reliable. Identical to your wife’s, but FWD and four-cylinder. Over 95,000 miles and owned since new.

I was thinking like $8,000 for mine, though. $14,900 seems like a lot for a private sale, no offense. At the same time, dealers really want $15,000 for ten-year old crossovers with 100,000+ miles.

Someone says this every time I sell a car and they are always wrong....I’ve sold 4  cars in the last 4 years, always to the first person who sees it in person and always within 10% of my asking price. The first lowballer to email me about this one offered $13k sight unseen.

The problem is you’re too successful and churning through vehicles too quickly, and I can’t afford your low-mileage well-maintained leftovers . Think about how this affects me , man.

Ironically, the one you really wanted was the (relatively) high-mileage Land Cruiser that I mostly maintained myself following a previous owner ’s  neglect....

It is likely better off not in my hands at that time. I chose worse cars instead. None of which remain.

I had a ‘07 V6. Ho-lee-shit was it fast! It came from a racing buddy of mine. I called dibs on it 10 years ago when i borrowed on e night to go to dinner and accidently stumbled across the power . It came to the point in life where it was gonna be traded in for a new car for his daughter-and probably no real money. One small rust sport-180k miles-lived life in New Hampshire. He offered it to me for $1000. Shit-the Hekkipalluta snows on it were worth that. The wife loved it.

And it broke in a month! I was laid up with foot issues at the time -and I heard it when it happen. The wife started it on a cold day-it fired up but skipped. SHe came in and said it sounds funny and a check engine light came on. Doing anything was gonna be tricky hobbling around on crutches . Bad timing for stuff to break.

I scanned it-showed a misfire on 2 cylinders (In the back!) . did coils+ plugs. no change. Com pression test showed a bit low in one cylinder. I pull the valve cover-it had a broken valve spring! A Toyota? Broken? No way! The book calls for a 24 hour job! Pull the motor-dual ( or more) timing chains-vvt-dual cams-etc etc - a bitch of a job . I wasn’t gonna be able to do anything-so I sadly sold it to a co worker . He made special tools and took off a bun ch parts to get at the spring. with time a patience h e was able to get the tiny keepers out and swap the spring out!

Turns out it was a known issue. Toyota never warranteed it-but Lexus did. Toy had a special tool made up to compress the sp ring and get the keepers in place.

I didn’t lose anything on it-but we miss it. My buddy tried to give me my money back -afraid we would be mad. Nope—it was just one of those things.

It’s a good car and I’m truly reluctant to part with it.

Couple months ago I would have told my parents to buy this, when a tree took out both their cars at the same time. My father picked up a 2007 CR-V for $2500 though, that was a good deal. It’s not going to last as long as your Toyota will (his has 180k) but it was a good find nonetheless.

Guess  the 4-cylinder FWD version didn’t hold their value as well...seems like you could get more than that private party though, no?

I’m trying to keep it low key around here, but I need to let it go soon (like, within a week at this rate) . My parents refuse to use Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. I have 101,000 miles, and this is definitely a huge factor.

I just wanted to provide an update now that I know the worth of my RAV4. I got a higher offer elsewhere, but still well below your sale price.
